The events of Fort Hood and the sudden rise to the surface Islamophobics has brought me to the surface as well. The past few days I did not blog because I was spending some of my blogging time on a local newspaper website shutting down people who want to believe Islam is the root of evil and therefore terrorism. Some of them wanted to debate the Qur’an with me, selecting individual passages out that “prove” Islam is a violent religion. All of their sources and quotes come straight from a selection of Anti-Islam websites that I have already seen before. It was not worth my time to explain to them why they were incorrect so I ignored the passage quoting despite their repeated insistence. After running them into circles where the only argument they seemed to be able to have is those passages and the idea that Muslims are killing all over the world, despite the fact that they do not acknowledge their own flaws within the argument, so it started to become a pointless debate.
So, of course, me being a troublemaker (I really should stop doing this.. but it’s so much fun..lol ) I took some of my old posts, edited them slightly and posted them on the site. One of the ones I wrote back on September 11th of this year and that just pissed him off and he became Rep. Joe Wilson typing “YOU LIE!” so I can tell I got under his sleeve a little. It really pissed him off that I didn’t allow free posting on my blog and so he proceeded to call me a coward and then took his comments and posted his own blog with the following introduction:
ThespianDuckie, a new anti-American screen name here on these pages has posted his vile treasonous venom here: http://link to where my blog was…
I strongly suspect this guy is a muslim terrorist, or at the very least, a muslim who sympathizes with the terrorists. His arguments, like we are to blame for 9/11, are utterly ridiculous and come straight from the AQ playbook.
Like a typical gutless anti-American coward, he has turned screening on for his blog. What follows is my response to his treason — because I doubt very seriously that he will allow it to be posted.
I ended up taking his posting and breaking it apart piece by piece. This guy thinks the Patriot Act is a good thing & it is “better them than us” in reference to killing Taliban/Afghani people.
He ended his rant responding to my statement: “Do not place a higher value on one US Citizen compared to an Iraqi or Afghanistan citizen.” With the following:
What kind of anti-American piece of crap are you? YOU D@MN WELL BETTER BELIEVE AN AMERICAN LIFE IS WORTH MORE THAN ANY CITIZEN OF ANY OTHER COUNTRY. YOU be a citizen of the world, traitor, *I* am an AMERICAN.
This is a typical “I’m an American, I’m better than everyone” mentality and it needs to end. I’m glad we have success, I’m glad we have freedom and I’m glad we want to share it with the world, but to say the American life is worth more than any other person on this world is the whole reason we are in this mess. A long time ago, the United States was the leader in freedom & innovative thought. Now, we are the leader in corruption of wealth, breaking of treaties and violations of laws. Since 9/11, we have broken numerous international laws, blocked Israel from facing war crimes, invaded sovereign nations and are threatening another. We sit and complain about our health care being too expensive and then watch as half of our tax dollars go to fund wars that are only increasing the chance of terrorism not stopping them.
I left him a comment on his blog post after all of that stating that I did post his comments, including a response that said the reason I do not let them post automatically is because I do not trust a radical like him to post something without it causing harm to people I support. If it was not a statement like that, it would be posted with a response from me.
I also said the following:
I am an American who questions the government – a dissident. If this makes me worthy of the names you call, so be it. I still love my country, whether you agree with me or not. In addition, my faith has nothing to do with my stance. I have not indicated whether I am Christian, Muslim, Jewish or Atheist. You can put me into any group you wish, it doesn’t change the fact that as an American Citizen, it is my duty to question everything my government does in my name.
If this makes me hated, so be it. But at least I know I have done something to end the illegal occupation of nations in my name, the murder of innocent women, men and children. At least I have spoken up to end the suffering of people.
I do not support the wars, the people who are fighting in them and the people who are hired to protect them. I do not wish harm on our soldiers and demand that we bring them home.
I do not plan to say much about the recent shooting at Ft. Hood, but I do want to discuss the fact that the media and thus in turn all of the idiots are going to be focusing on the fact that he has an Arabic name and that he is Muslim. I have been spending the last couple hours surfing around on my state’s newspaper’s online postings to fight against the hatred and obvious ignorance of those who decide that his faith is obviously why he was a murderer and therefore this is a terrorist act.
I am pleased to say that I am not alone in trying to get rid of the ignorance that I am finding. However, I feel it is important to point out some of what we are up against and why we need to ask our media, our elected officials and most of all, our friends to bring to light what kind of hatred they are spreading.
Each of these comments are from Alabama online versions of newspapers from across the state:
From a 38 year old Male in Wetumpta, AL:
“Once again a Muslim is to blame for mass killings. Why dont this religion go back acros the pond. There is nothing good to say about Muslims, they should all be executed like they do everyone else!”
From a white male in Birmingham AL:
“This is a religious war. I have said that from the beginning and no one agrees with me. It is us against Islam, treat all Islamists the same, deport them and/or imprison them, they are all cut from the same cloth, never mind the moderate, radical BS, just do it.”
Unknown from Pleasant Grove, AL:
“anther reason we don’t need muslims in the military..”
Unknown from Unknown location, AL:
“Get all muslims out of our military! They are unable to defend this country against other muslims.”
I hope to God that no one does anything stupid against Muslims in your local community. Work hard to combat this, speak the truth and work to open the light to others.
My thoughts and prayers are with all who are involved at the base and will end with the questions I am posting on many of these sites:
All religions have their nuts, to focus on the fact that he is Muslim is just stupid.
What religion was Seung-Hui Cho who shot and killed people at V-Tech?
What religion was Steven Kazmierczak who shot and killed people at N. Illinois?
What religion was Timothy McVey who blew up the OK City Building?
Do you know?
And does it matter in these shootings?
This is a man who was obviously troubled, unstable, but the fact that you are focused on his faith shows how ignorant you are.
Other things that can be asked:
What religion are abortion clinic bombers?
What religion were the Columbine shooters?
What religion were those arrested for organ harvesting?
Alright, I haven’t written about this yet and I have been waiting for the right moment to do so. Is this the right moment, I have no idea, but within my heart I want to speak up and say something.
This week, President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to be on the Supreme Court and it seems that despite her intellect, her skills and her experience, there is a general idea that it is okay to claim she was picked because she was a woman, or Latina. The idea that her gender and race played the only roll is idiotic. And then I heard some saying they didn’t think she was qualified. I mean, even @karlrove said he didn’t trust her qualifications because he knows a lot of stupid people who go to Ivy League schools. Which may be true, I mean didn’t our last President go to an Ivy League School? I’m just saying.
Yes, Bill. White Men are the problem. For as long as this country has existed, White Men have enjoyed a majority status in this world and for anyone to stand up and claim that someone is being picked because of her race or gender and then claim the nominee is a racist is only making the problem worse. Did it ever occur to any of these idiots that sometimes the race or gender of someone has little to do with why they are hired and the fact that they are a minority is a bonus not the reason they were hired?
What we have here with a bunch of old white men claiming this middle aged Latina woman is racist is nothing more than the majority playing victim in a passive-aggressive attempt at maintaining control and dominance over the minority.
In addition, there is a difference between a person who is proud of her gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, etc, who uses this to join together with like minded people to celebrate the diversity of their people and someone who is a racist bigot who uses this diversity to create hate and fear. Sonia Sotomayor is more than welcome to be a proud Latina Woman. To compare her with a group of people who used cross burnings, hanging & hate to celebrate white supremacy is idiotic and does nothing to improve the relationships between the races in this country.
And what in the hell does Menstruation have to do with how well a judge can perform? And who in the hell calls Spanish “Illegal Alien”?
From what I have been seeing, Sonia Sotomayor is a well qualified Judge who appears to be fair in her judgments when applying the law to the case. She is aware of what is going on in the country, how her judgment affects people & uses her best understanding of the law to determine the outcome. What more do you want from a judge? Sure, I would love to have a judge that is very progressive – stood up and shouted that Gay Marriage is a right or that freedom of medical choices is the reason abortion should remain legal. I would love for her to be one of those “activist judges” but does this make a difference to me in the long run? No. What I care about is that the Justices on the court take their role of the third branch of government seriously & avoid allow politics play into their choices. Based on her qualifications alone, she should be on the court.
With that being said, I do feel the court is not representational of what our general public is and I do feel it is important to try to maintain a balance in respect to race, gender and religion. So, if this nominee happens to be a female, great. If she happens to be Latina, great. Those are bonus’ to the equation because they help keep the balance.
So, be proud of who you are. Whether you are female, male, Latina, Asian, Black or White, whether you are Christian, Muslim, Jewish or Non-religious, stand up and be proud and don’t let these idiots tear you down, let their words fill you up with more passion and celebrate even louder.
