Blogging for a Cause

This blog will be very short, but it has a distinct purpose. A website (Zementa.com) is doing a promotion called “Blogging For A Cause”, they have partnered with Weber Shandwick to generate a cash donation to be given to a non-profit organization that generates the most blog posts in support of their cause and organization. Someone I met on twitter @jilliancyork works with Global Voices Advocacy Online and I wanted to help promote their cause and possibly help them gain enough support for the cash donation to help further their cause.

Global Voices Advocacy - Defending free speech online

Global Voices Advocacy (http://advocacy.globalvoicesonline.org) is the advocacy group of Global Voices Online and their main cause is to create a network to address & make aware the many problems of online censorship & freedom of speech. They work with members to provide information on anonymous blogging, anti-censorship campaigns & other online resources to combat the growing problem of online censorship.

I fully support what they do and hope they continue to have success in bringing to light how much censorship is out there and how badly it can get really quick. I also support their resources on how to guides and assistance for anonymous blogging so that freedom of speech is not suppressed in the online world like it might be in the real world. There are many countries and groups that will squash freedom of speech whenever they can, it is our job to help those who need to speak out and provide them the opportunity to do so without fear.

If you haven’t been to the main blogging site of Global Voices, I encourage you to do so, they post blogs & news related to online freedom of speech from around the globe and I know they are always looking for fresh voices to contribute – especially outside of the United States.
